How To Import Photoshop Actions

Statistics show that those who use Photoshop Actions are 7x more likely to live, longer stress free lives than those who don’t. Ok, I don’t have any evidence to back that up but what I’m trying to say is… Photoshop actions are a life saver. You made the right choice by downloading one.

Evidently, you are excited to start using your new Photoshop Action but have no idea how to import it! Uh-oh. Well you came to the right place. Let’s discuss how to import Photoshop Actions.

Step 1: Access Photoshop Actions Panel

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Before you even import anything, make sure you have access to your Photoshop Actions Panel.

You can access this panel by going up to WINDOW > ACTIONS. A play button icon will appear in your side bar. This is where all your Photoshop Actions will be found. By default, you will have a set of generic Photoshop actions available.

Most Photoshop Actions are stored within groups. The groups are represented by the folder icon and hold individual actions.

Step 2: Place .ATN File into Photoshop Actions Folder

To ensure you never lose your Photoshop action, let’s put it into Photoshop’s designated Actions folder.

To access this folder go to:

Mac: Finder > Applications > Adobe Photoshop > Presets > Actions

PC: Window > Local Disk > Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop > Presets > Actions

Drag and drop your .atn Photoshop action file into this folder.

Now that you have stored your Action in a secure space, it’s time to import the action. Open up the Photoshop action panel and click the hamburger menu in the top right corner. Then go down and select Load Actions.

A window will pop up prompting you to select the action you want to load. Follow the same path outlined in step 2 to find your photoshop action. Select the desired action(s) and click open.
