I frequently get asked where I get my free stock images from. So to help you out, I decided to compile a small list of my favourite FREE stock photo sites!

Stock photos give you access to amazing images from all over the world! However, sometimes they can end up being quite pricey. Ranging from a couple dollars per image to a paid monthly subscription to the stock site. This may deter you from wanting to use stock at all.

Luckily there is hope! With these awesome FREE STOCK PHOTO sites!

*NOTE:

The sites that I list below, all provide images under the Creative Commons 0 Attributions(CC0).”The person who associated a work with this deed has dedicated the work to the public domain by waiving all of his or her rights to the work worldwide under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights, to the extent allowed by law.”

In simpler terms, all images are in the public domain and can be used by anyone, for anything, in any way. Including personal and/or commercial purposes.

If you dabble in stock photos frequently, I recommend you read up on the varying Creative Commons licensed to know exactly what you are allowed to do with the images you are downloading!

TOP 5 FREE STOCK PHOTO SITES

UNSPLASH

UNSPLASH_blogimage

Unsplash is my go to free stock site. It’s simple interface and well tagged images makes everything extremely easy to find. The simple downloading process and clean design of Unsplash’s site, is why I put it in spot number 1! Definitely the one I would recommend looking at first! All images under CC0*

Pexels

Pexels is another fantastic stock photo site. A slightly more visually ‘busy’ website compared to Unsplash, but, still has an incredible selection of free images licensed under CC0. Chances are, if you can’t find the image you are looking for somewhere else, Pexels is going to have it!

Stock Snap

Stocksnap_blogimage

Stock Snap has tons of fantastic images that are very easy to find. Everything is well tagged and has a slightly different selection than many of the other free stock sites out there. It has a great “popular searches” feature that I find extremely useful.

Bare in mind that the first 2 rows of images in this site typically are PAID affiliate images with Shutter Stock. However, everything that is not starred is completely free! Regardless of this, Stock Snap is definitely worth your time.

Negative Space

NegativeSpace_Blogphoto

Negative space has a decent, unique selection of images, versus other free stock photo sites. Images are easy to download and similar quality compared to other sites. Search for your images through the ‘categories’ rather than the search bar and you will have much better luck!

I rank it lower in the list because of the comparatively poor image tagging and overwhelming amount of affiliate advertisement for recommended images.

BURST BY SHOPIFY

BURST_Blogimage

Although a free stock site, Burst caters more towards businesses and entrepreneurs. Their stock lean more towards images for websites or presentations versus composite photography. That being said, they have a few very interesting articles regarding business development and advertisement that makes this site worthwhile! Be sure to check the available stock images, but also their business articles… if that’s something you’re into!

So those are my top 5 recommended free stock photo sites to help improve your composite photography! If you know someone who would like this make sure to SHARE this article with them.
